THE BRIDGE #7
KHARI B. SPOKEN WORD / MAGIC MALIK. FLUTE / GUILLAUME ORTI. SAXOPHONE / FRÉDÉRIC BARGEON-BRIET. DOUBLE BASS / TYSHAWN SOREY. TROMBONE, DRUMS
This seventh issue of the exchange program The Bridge is another opportunity for a head count. Bargeon-Briet and Guillaume Orti were associates within Hask, a collective of the 90's. The bassist met the flutist Magic Malik in the Nimbus ensemble. He played with Tyshawn Sorey in the USA in 2012 and the latter met Magic Malik in the Steve Coleman galaxy. Then comes poet Khari B. recently named chairman of the AACM, the Chicago organisation of creative musicians that will turn fifty in 2015.
What is to be expected then? A multitasking orchestra that can perform profusely or thoughtfully; a stylish unbridled improvising unit indeed.
The Bridge is sponsored by Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, Sacem, FCM, Onda, Spedidam, Adami, Institut français and Intencity.
SARAH MURCIA - CAROLINECréation+ Mark Tompkins/Benoit Delbecq "Never Mind The Bollocks, here's the Sex Pistols"
SARAH MURCIA. DOUBLE BASS
• WITH CAROLINE : GILLES CORONADO. GUITAR / OLIVIER PY. SAXOPHONE / FRANCK VAILLANT. DRUMS
• GUESTS : MARK TOMPKINS. VOCALS, DANCE / BENOIT DELBECQ. PIANO
Tackling the first and only Sex Pistols album is quite a challenge, not to say sheer provocation. Well, provocation was the trademark of those English rockers, now established desecrators. But this is the height of provocation: the ones who dare assault the "myth" are Jazz improvisers! However, these Jazzsters head in four directions: mutant jazz, post-modern rock, alternative electro and odd pop! And guess what, with these ingredients, they will make a fine cocktail out of the brief songs and raw material of Anarchy in the UK, especially with the help of two chefs: Benoit Delbecq, a multi directional explorer of electronic music, prepared piano and tightrope walking and Mark Tompkins, singer, performer, choreographer and essential joker.
