ENGLISH VERSION : Playing together like-mindedly doesn’t have to be melodic. It certainly isn’t on this battlefield — Champs de bataille, in French. Mind you, this is neither a fratricidal war nor a turf war – but it is an altogether new form, and the exact opposite of a movie-concert. This photo-concert relies on the kind of imaginative faculties that are jogged by a still image, rather than a moving one. Three musicians improvise as photographs slide in front of the audience, so that they can all hear or see – in a word, witness – the traces of past wars.

Produced by l’Ensemble Nautilis. L’Ensemble Nautilis has benefited from the support of the  Ministère de la Culture / DRAC Bretagne, la Région Bretagne, le Conseil Départemental du Finistère and the city of  Brest, as well as the help of Sacem et SPEDIDAM.

Aquiles Navarro trompette, percussions, piano, voix
LUKE STEWART contrebasse
LUKAS KOENIG batterie, percussions

Shoot!

ENGLISH VERSION : Aquiles Navarro, Irreversible Entanglements’ fierce activists, know the creative musical scenes in and out. His free music of Latin-Afro-Caribbean inspiration forges its own path between the past, the present and the future, here in an almost telepathic trio with double bassist Luke Stewart and drummer Lukas Koenig). Suspended melodies, rhythmical zingers, and a brass section sounding the alarm. Their performance redefines the genre, and they take aim. Shoot!

ENGLISH VERSION : Chicago, as we will have seen throughout the history of the festival, is quite the treasure trove, as this festival has amply shown over the years. This ensemble is new proof of this, here’s a chiaroscuro beauty; the music is not what exactly it seems. It builds up; it takes its time. It’s extraordinarily precise – devilish almost; for the devil, as we all know, is in the details. Joshua Abrams, with his guembri, and the Natural Information Society take the liberty of creating hypnotic, meditative, benevolent trances. The perfectly quiet power of the group, joined by the percussionist Hamid Drake, pushes its audience into a happy trance, openly merging Coltrane’s lyricism and Abrams’s experimentations with The Roots. Mixing and matching and taking the long way home: pure, unadulterated joy.
