There is music, its energy, its crossovers, and there has been, for 40 years, The Ex. This year, the Dutch band will celebrate four decades of libertarian activism. 40 years of building indiscipline camps where Ethiopian and Eritrean fire meet, with powerful joy (a magical album with Getatchew Mekurya in 2006), free-form (for sure) improvisation leaders, like cellist Tom Cora, and fantasies with 20 musicians like The Ex Orkest. 40 years of roaring, setting up squats, taking down multinationals. Out of all complacency and commercial concession, the Dutch quartet has decided to invite, for this anniversary celebration at Sons d'hiver, a group of Ethiopian artists, musicians, dancers and circus performers, adepts, like Fendika, of falling outside the framework for disordered swerves.
