WU FEI & SHANIR EZRA BLUMENKRANZ

EXCLUSIVE
Wu Fei guzheng - vocals | Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz - oud, guembri, double bass

In 2019, global music has a lot to offer. Isn’t it nice and delightful, for instance, to joyfully revisit — or rather re-embellish — musical traditions, be it through a simple dialogue between closely related instruments or the invention of distantly related harmonies. The duo uniting Wu Fei’s ancestral guzheng strings to Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz’s equally ancient oud certainly explores this idea. Their splendid collisions flirt with frontiers and defy the limits of avant-garde experimentation. Wu Fei had already proved adventurous and uncompromising on Hello Gold Mountain, on which Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz performed. He too likes to distract the audience (as he did with Abraxas, a hybrid klezmerband keen on debunking stereotypes). Both are magnificently and stubbornly set on conjuring kabbalistic angels and demons, and the duo’s breathtaking, architectural music is far-reaching to say the least.
