LaFrae Sci and The 13th Amendment ? is a pearl we found on the shore of the New York scene. Created three years ago by drummer and political activist LaFrae Sci as an extension of the Black Rock Coalition, this band of magnificent mercenaries make all time classics their own. Negro spirituals ("Wade in the Water"); Charles Mingus' standard "Fables of Faubus", they all serve to question the amendment of the American Constitution that abolished slavery, the dream of emancipation from all barriers between men, between all kinds of music. The question mark in the band's name is here to ask: has everything been done in that regard? Does everything remain to be done? LaFrae Sci and The 13th Amendment ? is a new Assembly of creative musicians who are ready to redefine the rules of the game.
A Cody ChesnuTT concert is a party, a feast, with Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye or Curtis Mayfield for guardian spirits. His notoriety has no other source than the genuineness of an art expression that knows the Real Book and its own; a powerful and warm voice that handles every tone from muted to sputter. Slyly, Cody ChesnuTT likes to say you have to put some soul music in pop music because pop music lost its soul... And his favourite themes come from the Blues tradition : everyday life in every aspect, poverty smashed by hope smashed by poverty, loneliness, love... So many reasons to be part of this party, this feast
