LA MACANITA
FLAMENCOLA MACANITA CHANT / MANUEL ROMERO GUERRERO PALMAS / MANUEL PANTOJA CARPIO PALMAS / MANUEL VALENCIA MEDRANO GUITARE
Tomasa Guerrero Carrasco aka La Macanita was born in the most genuine Andalousia where, they say, grows "el Cante Jondo" (deep singing). At 15, she gave her first recital. Her very personal voice with "rajo" effects (broken voice) is considered as the purest "flamenca". With a muted register "con metales" ("sounding like metal"), she moves from deep singing to buoyancy. Renowned for her bullerias, soleares, siguriyas, fandangos and Christmas villancicos, La Macanita is also famous for her natural talent to build in dances that are instantly adapted to the kind of chant she sings.
AGUJETAS
AGUJETAS VOICE / ANTONIO SOTO ARJONA GUITAR / IKEDA KANAKO DANCE
Agujetas was born a Gipsy, son of a blacksmith, and learned very early from his father - also a great singer - the art of Flamenco singing. He practiced what was going to become a unique voice by punctuating his singing with regular hammer hits on the anvil. Now a leading character of Flamenco, Agujetas distinguish himself by a raspy but less tragic approach to singing than his predecessors. A real poet, you can hear an ancestral descent in his stirring cries. Nevertheless, his dark singing is a contemporary one, tense and thorny, sharp and painful, dry and burning. Freer than ever, in full possession of his art, Agujetas still lives close to Jerez. He still has the smithy handed down by his father where he keeps on practicing singing just like in the early days, hammering the anvil
