ENGLISH VERSION : We’ve already mentioned Rob Mazurek’s interest in junctions of all kinds. The third installment of the combinations he explores this year with Sons d’hiver displays a different type of juxtaposition – one that brings Sound and Vision together and inaugurates a brand new form in Mazurek’s career. One in which he closely examines a unique thought, approaching it from multiple and complementary angles. The result is fascinating: an overwhelming performance-installation. It might make you hallucinate, and the word is not too strong! But Rob Mazurek takes it even further. For this project – arguably his most ambitious ever – he’s imagined The Book of Sound as a multimedia space opera in which acoustic instruments and electronic sounds face the cornet player’s fictional doppelgänger, Helder Velasquez Smith, who has come to help further the sonic, visual and textual researches of a fascinating composer who has left Chicago to go and explore the outer space.
