Adam Rudolph est un homme précieux. Par ses collaborations, d’abord. Il joue et enregistre avec Yusef Lateef de 1988 à 2013, on le croise en compagnie de Don Cherry, Bill Laswell, Pharoah Sanders. Par sa fonction, ensuite. Compositeur, improvisateur et percussionniste, il connait ses couleurs et ses assauts rythmiques. Empruntée aux structures complexes créées par le vol des oiseaux, la musique du Go: Organic Orchestra met au tympan de l’auditeur des cosmogonies tourbillonnantes. Associé aux musiciens indiens du Brooklyn Raga Massive, l’ensemble dresse un pont entre les traditions ancestrales et l’avant-garde, entre les ragas indiens, le spiritual jazz et l’improvisation. En dirigeant les musiciens de manière improvisée, Adam Rudolph créé des orchestrations spontanées et pose les fondements d’une certaine idée de l’orchestre du futur, basée sur l’ouverture, l’empathie et le partage.
ENGLISH VERSION : Adam Rudolph is a valuable man. First of all, by his collaborations: the time spent playing and recording with Yusef Lateef, from 1988 to 2013, and his work with Don Cherry, Bill Laswell, and Pharoah Sanders. Next, by his functions, as a composer, improviser, and percussionist, a connoisseur of rhythmic colors and attacks. Inspired by the complex structures created by murmurations of birds in flight, the music of Go: Organic Orchestra confronts the listener with whirling and looping cosmogonies. Bringing in the Indian musicians from the Brooklyn Raga Massive, the orchestra bridges ancestral traditions with the avant-garde, weaving together the bright fibers of Indian ragas, spiritual jazz, and improvisation. Rudolph, who improvises as the conductor, creates spontaneous orchestrations. He is laying the foundations for a certain idea of the orchestra of the future, based on openness, empathy, and sharing.

Demandez au hasard, ou à la cantonade, un seul nom pour illustrer le qawwali et le chant soufi. On vous répondra Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Sans doute, mais Faiz Ali Faiz pousse le qawwali sur d’autres rives encore, plus modernes, plus nerveuses aussi. Rien ne se laisse dompter, rien n’est jamais figé. Le chanteur s’appuie sur l’héritage familial pour réactualiser la tradition, il vivifie le flamenco joué par Miguel Poveda, où se fait tapageur avec Thierry ‘Titi’ Robin. À chaque fois le chant d’Ali Faiz s’impose, volubile comme un virtuose un soir de grande marée, la gorge déployée pour aller tutoyer ce que la voûte du ciel pourrait contenir d’étincelles réjouissantes, de lait parfumé et autres bonheurs des sens propres à vous rappeler à votre humanité urgente.
ENGLISH VERSION : Call out the question at random: who’s the king of qawwali? You’re bound to hear the name Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Of course, Ali Khan is the most famous, the father. But Ali Faiz brings qawwali to new heights – more modern and frenetic. Nothing is ever tamed or rigid. Ali Faiz draws upon his family’s legacy to update tradition. He has been known to invigorate Miguel Poveda’s flamenco guitar and he occasionally raises a ruckus with Thierry “Titi” Robin. Every time, Ali Faiz’s voice prevails, as voluble as a virtuoso singing to the full moon that rules the tides, rising full-throated to soar with the stars sparkling in the celestial vault, reminding us of spiced warm milk and other joys of the senses that put you in touch with your urgent humanity.
