Plus de cinquante ans après sa sortie, La Planète Sauvage demeure l’un des films d’animation les plus beaux et originaux de l’histoire du cinéma. Fable de science-fiction signée René Laloux et Roland Topor, le film installe son intrigue sur une planète où vivent des humanoïdes géants à la peau bleue parvenus à un stade de civilisation très avancé, qui ont domestiqué les hommes. L’ambiance si particulière du récit doit beaucoup à la musique composée par Alain Goraguer – pianiste, compositeur et arrangeur de génie pour le gratin de la variété française – où se mélangent rock progressif, funk et pop.

Pour marquer ses débuts à la direction de l’Orchestre National du Jazz, la compositrice et flûtiste Sylvaine Hélary a impulsé cette ambitieuse relecture contemporaine du film, en revisitant et réarrangeant sa musique mais pas seulement. La Planète Sauvage version ONJ, c’est un ciné-concert “éclaté”, création hybride et contemporaine – à découvrir à partir de 10 ans – interprétée par deux comédiennes, chanteuses et sept solistes, qui feront dialoguer la partition originale de Goraguer avec des créations de Sylvaine Hélary aux accents jazz, électro et contemporains. Une expérience visuelle, scénographique et musicale inédite pour redécouvrir un chef d’œuvre à la lumière d’enjeux très contemporains.

EN // Over fifty years after its release, The Fantastic Planet remains one of the most beautiful and original animated films in the history of cinema. This science-fiction tale adapted by René Laloux and Roland Topor unfolds on a planet inhabited by giant blue humanoids. The highly advanced stage of civilization they have attained enables them to make pets of human beings. The film’s atmosphere owes a great deal to Alain Goraguer’s soundtrack. Goraguer, who wrote for France’s biggest singing stars, concocted a mixture of progressive rock, funk, and pop.

To set the tone for her term as musical director at the Orchestre National du Jazz, composer and flutist Sylvaine Hélary became the driving force behind an ambitious contemporary reinterpretation of the film, revising and rearranging the music and even more. The ONJ version of The Fantastic Planet is a deconstructed screening with live music, a hybrid, state-of-the-art performance appropriate for children over the age of 10. It is performed by a singer-actor and seven soloists, who alternate Goraguer’s original score with the jazz- and electro-accented inventions of Sylvaine Hélary and Antonin Rayon. This unique musical, visual, and dramatic experience is a way to rediscover a masterpiece in light of issues we face in the here-and-now.
